Nerja is a tourist town on the Costa del Sol that is situated 50km east of Malaga. It is 1 hour 15 minutes from Granada and 30 minutes from the Sierra Nevada. There are many people that take a holiday in Nerja from the UK, staying in a hotel in nerja and around 2,000 expats that live there all year round. They are attracted by a climate that is one of the best in Europe and cheaply priced rental nerja apartments, and other Nerja accommodation. Nerja accommodation is plentiful and has high class hotels like the Nerja Parador, Capistrano Nerja, Carabeo Nerja, Perla Marina Nerja and Marina Hotel Nerja.
Nerja is famous for its caves and they are the third most visited attraction in Spain after the Prado in Madrid and Alhambra palace in Granada. Of course what most people come to Nerja for are the beaches which stretch for 5km and in particular Burriana beach Nerja which is one of the select few that has a rare EU classified blue flag rating and offers many different types of watersports. It also boasts a natural amphitheatre that holds concerts in the summer. Other attractions include the nearby mountains, Sierra de Almijara & Sierra Tejeda and the Sierra de Burno that overlooks the town which is challenge for any climber. There is the Natual Park Maro – Cerro Gordo. The town is also the center for Scuba diving in the Costa del Sol.
Also the town receives a lot of its visitors from within Spain unlike other Costa del Sol resorts and from Italy and France. The town still has its old town with its 17th Century Church. Nerja has its annual fiesta in July called the Virgen del Carmen and has an entertaining New Year´s eve.
Compared to other resorts it doesn’t suffer from high rise developments, maintains its charm due to the stunning coast line and is close to the typical white Andalusian villages makes Nerja an interesting option for a few days stay in a villa in nerja or for a longer 2 week stay.
